Dear Voters:

In an effort to continue working in public service, I am running for a position on the College of Lake County Board of Trustees. This is a non-political and non-paid position but is an extremely important one. I believe I can bring a new perspective and fresh voice to the Board.

My education and work experiences are well suited to the position. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Type 75 certificate along with Type 10 and Type 03 teaching certificates. I also am a 1996 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. Prior to attending law school I spent many years in special education and school psychology teaching and counseling emotionally disturbed, behavior disordered and learning disabled students. After completing my Master’s Degree in Administration I spent five years as an administrator in the largest elementary school in the state. I was responsible for a K-6 building of 1400 students and more that 50 staff members. That position provided me with significant experience in budgeting, administration, policy making, public speaking and handling day to day problems. I am familiar with school law, special education placement issues, curriculum issues, teacher negotiations, union contracts and the process of funding our schools. I currently practice law with The Children’s Law Group and am frequently involved in education issues through my work. My legal practice has given me experience with all of Illinois’ statutes as well as Federal law and statutes. I have worked with civil rights, collective bargaining, teacher tenure and teacher pensions issues.

Education has always been one of my top priorities. I believe that community colleges will become even more important due to our current economic problems. I want to help insure that students of all ages and backgrounds continue to have access to an affordable post high-school education.

Please come out and vote on April 7, 2009. I want to work with the community, faculty, staff, students and the Board to make the college one of the top community colleges in the state.

I have lived and worked in the heart of the 51st District for over 20 years. I love this community and I am very proud of the growth and accomplishments I have seen here over the years. While most of the change our area has experienced has made it a great place to live, it also has created frustrations we all face daily.

My campaign is about giving respect and freedom back to our elderly so they can retire and live in the house where they raised a family without the risk of being taxed out of it. It is about allowing all of us to live longer, healthier lives by utilizing resources in the best possible manner so that we can find solutions to our health care crisis. It is about looking at alternatives for funding and running our educational system so that our kids get the best possible start in life. It is also about improving our quality of everyday life by working to reduce road congestion and the transportation problems that plague us.

This district needs a fresh perspective and a Representative who is willing to listen and work with both sides of the aisle. When I decided to run again, I made a promise to myself to run a fair and honest campaign the way that I feel is best. This is a grassroots campaign the way I want to run it and I will not rely on political pundits or others who want to focus on something outside of the important issues.

I believe you don't ask people for their votes, you provide them with examples to earn their trust. This is the foundation of my campaign. Working as a teacher, principal and attorney has allowed me to hone my skills on how to deal with a variety of people, perspectives, and problems. With your help I will go to Springfield and work every day to bring real solutions to the problems of the 51st District and the state of Illinois. As your state representative, I will be a full time advocate in Springfield who will work with people on both sides of the political aisle to bring home fresh answers to our nagging problems.

I look forward to working with you and for you.

Sincerely,
