Making a Real Difference…Fighting for What Really Counts

Property Tax Escalation

Are your property taxes too high?
In the 51st District, rising property taxes are forcing homeowners to make difficult choices and are straining our communities. We need to work to guarantee across the board tax relief. When people can't afford to pay their property taxes, they can lose their homes. I will work for property tax relief for you and all the families in this area. I will also work to ensure that developers of new neighborhoods pay their fair share of the cost of schools, roads and emergency services.

Government Accountability

Do you understand your property tax bill?
Our property tax system needs to be understandable. It should also be uniform, open and transparent. I support SB 2820, sponsored by State Senator Bond that would force tax assessors tell you exactly why your assessment is going up. Unlike our current Representative, I am not a township tax assessor and will be able to address the issue without any bias or conflict of interest.

Education Reform

Are our schools as good as they can be?
As a former teacher and principal I understand what it takes to give our kids the best education possible. I also know that there is no magic cure for what ails our school systems. We need to find better ways to fund education. We also need to find better ways to measure accountability. Real education reform will not be easy. We need stronger leaders who will do what it takes to fix our education crisis. I am ready and willing to work toward securing our future by making the tough choices necessary.

Smart Growth

Are you tired of over building, traffic congestion and jobs leaving Lake County?
As you sit in traffic hoping you won't lose your job this year, the last thing on your mind may be your state government. But our legislators could do a lot more to solve our traffic problems and to keep jobs in Lake County.

We need to invest in the health of existing communities before we spend money on sprawling growth. We need an efficient and convenient transit system to help reduce road congestion and air pollution. We need to work with federal, state and local officials on transportation issues. We can do much more by working together. As your State Representative I will work hard to bring dollars into our area to improve our roads. I will support initiatives that give businesses money if they locate near public transportation. I will also focus on bringing new businesses -- and good jobs -- into Lake County.

Health Care

Can you afford it if a family member gets sick?
More than 1.8 million Illinois residents lack health insurance! Thousands more have inadequate insurance. Our health care insurance system is in crisis. Costs keep going up, adding an increased burden on employers and individuals. Businesses and jobs will continue to leave Illinois unless we find a way to make health care more affordable.

We need to work toward major reforms. Almost one-third of our health care spending goes toward paperwork and management. Doctors and hospitals spend a significant amount of time trying to work with our complicated private insurance system. In the long run, society pays dearly for these escalating costs.

As State Representative, I will work tirelessly to reform our health care system so that no one has to choose between buying groceries or paying for prescriptions, and so that people aren’t forced to make career choices solely based on health care needs rather than on their career goals.

Why I want to work for you.

With your help I will go to Springfield and work every day to bring real solutions to the problems of the 51st District and the state of Illinois. I will listen to you and work with you in our community. As your state representative, I will be a full time advocate in Springfield who will work with people on both sides of the political aisle to bring home fresh answers to our nagging problems.
